Private imaging · Fast access · Same-day results
When clinical assessment suggests imaging is needed, waiting months on an NHS list is not always the right answer. As a GOsC-registered osteopath, David can refer you directly for private MRI, X-ray, and ultrasound scanning — with results often available the same day.
Call to discuss a referralWhy private imaging?
In many cases, osteopathic assessment and treatment alone is sufficient to get you better. We do not recommend imaging routinely or unnecessarily. But there are presentations where a scan changes everything — where knowing exactly what is happening in a joint, disc, or soft tissue structure is the difference between treating the right problem and guessing.
When that is the case, the NHS pathway can mean months of waiting before you have the information needed to move forward. Private imaging through Vista Health means that wait is measured in days rather than months — and in David's own experience, results can be in your hands within hours of the scan.
The referral is made directly from the clinic via a secure clinical portal. You do not need to go back to your GP. You do not need to start a new process from scratch.
Available imaging
Magnetic resonance imaging provides the most detailed picture of soft tissue structures — discs, ligaments, tendons, nerves, and cartilage — without radiation exposure.
Commonly used for
X-ray provides rapid, clear imaging of bony structures. Particularly useful where fracture, arthritic change, or structural alignment needs to be confirmed or ruled out.

Ultrasound is highly effective for dynamic assessment of soft tissue structures — tendons, bursae, and muscles — particularly where movement-related pathology is suspected.

The process
Your osteopath assesses your presentation and determines whether imaging would meaningfully change or inform the treatment approach. We do not refer for imaging routinely — only when it is genuinely warranted by the clinical picture.
If a scan is recommended, David raises the referral directly through the Vista Health clinical portal from the clinic. No GP visit required. The request is made clinically, with the relevant history and findings included.
Vista Health contact you directly to arrange your appointment at a time and location that suits you — Lancaster or Manchester. In David's own experience, private appointments are typically available within days of the referral being raised.
Your scan is carried out by qualified radiographers. Images are reported by a specialist radiologist and results are typically available to you the same day — giving you and your osteopath the information needed to move forward with confidence.
Once results are available, your next osteopathic appointment takes place with the scan findings in hand. Treatment can be adjusted, a more targeted plan put in place, or onward referral arranged if the findings indicate something beyond osteopathic management.

Private imaging is not something we offer as a routine add-on or a way to generate additional income. We recommend it when we genuinely believe it is the safest or most clinically necessary option to give you the best possible outcome.
If we think the clinical picture is clear enough to treat without imaging, we will say so. If we think imaging would change what we do — or if we need to rule out something that requires a different kind of management — we will tell you that directly and explain why.
The decision is always yours. We provide the clinical reasoning. You decide whether to proceed.
If you are already a patient and have been advised that imaging may be appropriate, or if you want to understand more about the process before booking, call us or send us a message.
